Eccentric Readers Club at a Glance
A Brief Background
Eccentric Readers Club is one that was bore out of passion. ERC is a society of literature lovers that want to change the world by not only reading but promoting literacy in all of Africa. A report of the African Union shows that over 45% of the youth population in africa still suffer from illiteracy. Coupled with the fact that education is a major problem, the reading culture of youths are arguable at its lowest in this century. The global society has changed in so many ways that the reading culture all around the world has been affected. The National Bureau of Statistics posits that the reading culture of Nigerians have declined 38% in the last 10 years. This is something ERC hopes to change.
This we believe can be done through the appreciation of African literature. The truth is that there are so many African writers that are exceptionally phenomenal. They have a vast number of topics to offer, ranging from fiction to nonfiction. However, some of these writers have been vastly under appreciated. This is something we also aim to fix in ERC. We would be promoting African authors as well as their art.
ERC would have to major sections; The adult and Children section. Each section would have a different set of book list (based on the Theme of the month) that will be uploaded to the website.
ERC would also take part in vast community engagements that will improve the reading culture in Nigeria and Africa.
Activities

Book Club Meetings
The Eccentric Readers Club will meet every month to discuss the book of the month. The book club will last for three (3) hours and will follow a precise order of discussion.
Snack pickup and seat taking (15 minutes).
Introduction of the book by the book club leader (10 minutes).
A moderated discussion of the book based on a discussion guide given to the leader (1 hour).
Discussion for book of the next month (by this time, a list of three or more books that fit
the team will be presented to the club and we would decide on a book together. 10 minutes)

ERC Holiday Programme
The holiday programme, which is designed for children between the age of 6-18, will run every holiday period that last for two or more weeks. The holiday programme will include a list of extracurricular activities that children can engage in.
However, this summer, only the creative writing class will run. This class would teach children at a very young age how to be better writers. A step by step activities will be carried out to make sure that at the end of every class, results are seen by both parents and student. This would be a very engaging class and we are equipped with very qualified tutors. This class will also support children with autism.
Creative writing has been proven to help people express themselves. The essence of creative writing cannot be overemphasized and our aim is to breed ECCENTRIC writers.

Community Service
Eccentric Readers Club is involved in a series of community services. We believe that one of the major ways to change our society is by getting actively in touch with the major needs. So far, Nigeria has a major crisis when it comes to literacy. This has been based on a couple of reasons such as poverty and ignorance. This is one way that ERC would actively get involved. To be more precise, ERC would actively contribute to its community by doing the following;
Book Donations: Twice every year, ERC will call for a national book drop. This is an activity that will reach out to people to drop off books that are not being used and ERC will donate such books to students, schools and libraries in rural communities.
Refurbishments of Libraries: One Every year, ERC will call out for donors (national and international) to invest in the building and refurbishments of libraries across our communities. These libraries will be stocked with books and proper maintenance techniques.
Literary Competitions: ERC will also put together a series of competition for children below the age of 18. This is set out to actually encourage children to explore their imagination. Those that enter the final stages of the competition will get their short stories or poems published in an ERC series of literary exposé.
